Vehicle Maintenance
Mission Statement
The Vehicle Maintenance Department is a service provider for all city departments, coordinating the maintenance operations for a mixed fleet of over 325 units e.g., automotive; trucks; emergency vehicles such as police, fire, and ambulance; sewer equipment; and commercial construction equipment.

Vehicle maintenance has a staff of ten employees and is located at 1535 Dickinson Ave.

With a fully trained staff available, vehicle maintenance allows for flexibility in repairing equipment, thus saving in vehicle downtime.  Staff has been extensively cross-trained, which is a tremendous asset in having worked on familiar equipment and results in providing for reduced expenses and increased maintenance expectations.

Responsibilities
Vehicle maintenance performs all functions of maintenance such as brake repairs, engine and transmission overhauls, routine oil changes, electronic analyzing and repairs, welding, fabrication, and other tasks as requested.  Although it can be a daunting responsibility, the vehicle maintenance crew’s abilities and drive are up to the challenge.

Additional responsibilities of this department include, but are not limited to, the writing of bid specifications for new and replacement vehicles and equipment, assisting departments with decisions on the economic replacement of vehicles, purchasing new and replacement vehicles, and the disposal of obsolete vehicles.  Staff also maintains and tracks the city’s fuel center on Dickinson Avenue.
