Traffic Signal Battery Backup & Surge Protect

CDBG-DR Round 2.2 funds:  Installing battery backup and surge protection systems for 33 traffic signals and installing LED signal heads and luminaires and pan/tilt/zoom cameras and fiber/wireless communication at 59 traffic signals. Cost: $964,029

Why It’s Needed:

The project addresses failure of the traffic signal network to function effectively during the Hurricane Ike event, resulting in an undue impact on limited police protection that was simultaneously required to manually monitor intersections while also addressing the emergencies associated with a hurricane. Federal resources for 100% of this project to a maximum amount of $964,029 is approved as part of Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery Round 2.2 funding.
