Next Steps Public Meeting - February 29, 2012
Now that the Main Street Implementation Plan has been approved, it is time to address any remaining issues and move forward on design and implementation of improvements. The Masons of our own League City Masonic Lodge #1053 have graciously invited the community and city staff to come together in their hall at 510 East Main Street on February 29 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss next steps on our way toward implementation. We will discuss several critical issues important to the community with a focus on those items that are proposed for immediate design, including:
  • Intersection improvements between Highway 3 and Iowa Street (including Park Avenue)
  • Roadway and streetscape improvements along Main Street
  • Parking enhancements along Park Avenue
  • Improvements to League Park
  • Improvements to the play area at League City Elementary
 
City Council Action - February 14, 2012
On February 14, 2012, the City Council approved the adoption of the Main Street Implementation Plan.

Planning and Zoning Commission Recommendation - February 6, 2012
On February 6, 2012, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the adoption of the Main Street Implementation Plan. The plan will now be forwarded to City Council for consideration on February 14, 2012. The meeting will be held at 200 West Walker Street (map) at 6:00 p.m.

Joint Public Hearing & Briefing - January 30, 2012
On January 30, the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Historic District Commission held a joint public hearing and were briefed on the progress of the plan and revision to the draft of the Main Street Implementation Plan. The revisions were based on the discussions of the January 4 public meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center at 400 West Walker Street in League City, Texas (map).

First Public Hearing - January 4, 2012
On January 4, a public meeting was held where the draft implementation plan was discussed to gather community input, select the projects, and details that are expected for success. The meeting was held at 6:00 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center in League City. View a copy of the plan draft.

Main Street Implementation Plan - Draft
The League City Main Street Implementation Plan draft marks a critical step toward needed improvements in the Main Street area. Main Street, the Historic District, and the surrounding area represent the cultural heart of the community, which makes it the most natural opportunity to establish a destination that draws more people to the area and potentially keeps them there for longer and more regular periods of time. More than simply another study, the Main Street Implementation Plan is an agenda for action by focusing upon catalyst projects that transforms Main Street, adding value to existing businesses and spurring additional private investment in the area.  

The recommendations of the implementation plan are based upon projects and concepts established in other studies. The Comprehensive Plan for the City of League City, as well as the Economic Development Strategic Plan recommend that Main Street and the surrounding area become a destination that builds upon the cultural and historic character of the area. Similarly, the Branding, Marketing, and Development Action Plan recommended specific improvements in the area, including improvements to Main Street and League Park and creation of a public market and amphitheater.
